Mother Teresa University — Building Reconstruction and Adaptive Reuse
EACOM carried out the reconstruction, conversion and technical adaptation of Building No. 83 within the Ilinden Barracks complex in Skopje, transforming the existing structure into a functional higher-education facility for Mother Teresa University.
The project was delivered under EACOM’s former legal name, EUROVIA.
Context and purpose.
The project involved the reconstruction and conversion of an existing building within the Ilinden Barracks complex in Skopje for the operational needs of Mother Teresa University.
Building No. 83 was adapted from its former use into a public higher-education facility capable of supporting academic, administrative and institutional functions.
The published project value was 77,200,000 MKD. EACOM’s delivery covered the coordinated reconstruction and technical adaptation of the existing structure, including architectural works, façade execution, building-services installations, accessibility, fire-safety elements and external site works.
The project represents a multidisciplinary adaptive-reuse reference in which an existing public building was converted into a functional institutional facility through coordinated civil, architectural and technical execution.
Construction scope and deliverables.
Delivery methodology.
Reconstruction of an existing building requires a different delivery approach from new construction because the design and construction packages must be coordinated with the condition, geometry and limitations of the existing structure.
EACOM coordinated the interfaces between reconstruction works, architectural adaptation, façade execution, electrical and mechanical installations, water and drainage networks, fire-safety requirements, accessibility elements and external works.
Execution required controlled sequencing between removal and preparation works, reconstruction, technical installations, internal adaptation and finishing activities.
The construction process also required continuous coordination with the investor, project designers, supervision, subcontractors, suppliers and the relevant institutional stakeholders.
Institutional construction delivery.
Adaptive-reuse projects combine construction risk, technical coordination and functional transformation.
Unlike a standard renovation, the Mother Teresa University project required the conversion of an existing building into a higher-education facility with new academic, administrative and supporting functions.
Its technical relevance lies in the coordinated integration of structural reconstruction, architectural adaptation, electrical and mechanical systems, water and drainage networks, fire safety, accessibility and exterior works within an existing public building.
The project strengthens EACOM’s reference portfolio in public institutional reconstruction and multidisciplinary building conversion.
Outcomes and contribution.
The completed project converted an existing building within the Ilinden Barracks complex into a functional public higher-education facility.
Through the coordinated reconstruction and technical adaptation of Building No. 83, the project provided Mother Teresa University with additional institutional infrastructure for its academic and administrative operations.
For EACOM, the project represents a significant reference in adaptive reuse, public-building reconstruction and integrated multidisciplinary construction delivery.
Academic and institutional operations.
Following reconstruction and conversion, the building was intended to support the academic, administrative and institutional operations of Mother Teresa University.
The adapted facility provides the physical framework required for teaching, faculty operations, administration, internal circulation and supporting university functions.
